A personal scrapbook, where I post progress on current projects, scribbles, code snippets I've found useful, maybe a photograph or two, and anything else web / graphics / art that I find inspiring.

Facebook asked “What was on my mind?”, well here goes…
When you pick a snail off a wall and there’s no snail in there, where has it gone?
Has it been reading Paul Daniels Book of Magic and will appear somewhere surprising, like from behind someones ear?
Was it so hungry from climbing the wall that it ate itself? This is stupid, it should have looked up at the wall and thought… “this is a big wall, I better have some lettuce before I go, otherwise I may start eating myself half way up”.
Has it been watching the Shawshank Redemption, and burrowed through the wall, just leaving it’s shell there? Thus keeping it’s secret digging antics on the low-down.
Are they off streaking somewhere? This would be very uneventful as surely everyone, even snails probably, will think it’s a slug.
Has it decomposed? And in which case are snails slowly decomposing from the moment they are born / hatched or whatever? If thats true then the shell is pretty rubbish protection. What is it for? Do they hide in it? It’s obvious where they are. Thats like a ostrich hiding it’s head in the sand. Idiots.
If it was good protection then why don’t slugs have a shell? As far as I know slugs perform the same environmental job as a snail, and they seem to be fine. Do snails think they are above slugs and wear tribal apparel to inflate their own sense of self importance?
OK, I’ve thought about this quite deeply. Without any research, the only pro-shell thing I have come up with is that maybe birds find it harder to pick them up. I can imagine this is useful. However, if when a snail is hiding in its shell it can’t see out, how would they know when to come out? Too soon and the bird will see it and eat it. Too long and it decomposes into nothing.
In conclusion, empty snail shells are, in my opinion, grave stone markers of where the snail survived being eaten by a bird. But to be on the safe side, waited a little too long inside the shell, and decomposed.
Snails are therefore idiots.
